Woody is back!

Our woodpecker has been making more frequent appearances lately. I took these pictures yesterday. They're not the greatest, but I still thought it was a neat silhouette.

And her sister lives here

We have a second nest at our house. It is behind the house on the cement pad. Looks nice and comfy huh?

My tribute to the Cardinals....

After last nights heartbreaking loss, I thought the least I could do is honor the Cardinals today in my own special way. These are pics taken in our yard. What do you think he's saying? Maybe it's, "Hey baby, come here often?".
I love how he has snow on his beak in this one!

She was sitting in that hole and just as I snapped the picture, she flew out.

Caught with a sunflower seed in his mouth.

Sitting pretty.

We were so glad to have Cardinals join our birds this year. We have never had them at our bird feeder. They really like sunflower seeds!

The babies are here!

Well, 3/4 anyways. They hatched sometime between yesterday evening and early this afternoon. It's amazing that they were all scrunched up in those little eggs. They are already hopping around and following the mom and dad around.

I didn't even notice until I zoomed on this last picture that the egg is cracking. The sun was bright and the mama and daddy bird weren't too happy about me taking pictures of their new arrivals. There are probably four babies out there now!

Guess who's here???

This morning I went out to the garden to get some tomatoes and I was met with this nice surprise! I was so excited I went running back into the house.

Birds Nest In Our Tomatoes- Take Two

We found this birds nest in our tomatoes a couple of weeks ago. We think it is a wren's nest. It has 4 eggs. The mother is on the nest most of the time now and she doesn't fly away even when I'm picking tomatoes about 6 inches from her. There is a whole bunch of tomatoes right above her nest. I have picked the biggest one so that it doesn't fall on the eggs.
If you look really close in this picture you can see the momma bird in the middle looking up at me.

(The pictures should all be zoomable now. Not sure what I did different.)

More Bird Pictures

Just wanted to show off the other kind of finch that has been visiting our bird feeder. I'm pretty sure it's called a purple finch even though it's head is kind of red. I believe the one on the left is the male and the one on the right is the female. I had to post this one for Amanda. I think the second bird is saying "What you talkin about Willis?"

Our Birdfeeders

Last year we had a regular bird feeder out front. We also had a hummingbird feeder that attaches to the window. A couple of weeks ago we saw a finch in our yard (the first time in 8 years?) and so we decided to get a finch feeder. It has become a popular place! The males are the bright yellow ones and the females are the duller colored ones.
These are our hummingbirds and the boys watching birds. I've tried to teach them to be quiet and move slow when there are birds out there. If Isaiah sees one, he says "shhhhh".
