Love this quote!

"Take this rule: whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off your relish of spiritual things; in short, whatever increases the strength and authority of your body over your mind, that thing is sin to you, however innocent it may be in itself." -- Susanna Wesley (Letter, June 8, 1725)

The last line is the kicker in this one.

We all have an idea in our minds of what sin is. We're familiar with the "big 10" and most of us do a pretty good job on a daily basis of not killing anyone or stealing.

But what about those seemingly "innocent" things? We rationalize that "it's just a book" or "just a TV show" or "just food". We say things that are "just words".

I wonder sometimes what it would be like to have a God that you could see in day to day life (kind of reminiscent of "The Shack"). Would we really do the things we do and say the things we say if we could see Him in the room with us? I'm pretty sure that suddenly some things would seem very wrong to us. Maybe even sinful...

Quote of the day

"One way of looking at this might be that, for 42 years, I've been making regular deposits in this bank of experience, education, and training. And on January 15, the balance was sufficient so that I could make a very large withdrawal."

-Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, pilot who saved all of his passengers and crew when he made and emergency landing on the Hudson River

I just think that this is a very neat quote. How true it is! Everything we learn/do is being stored up in us for a time that we will need it down the road. I need to read my Bible more and make more deposits into my brain, so that when I need to make a withdrawal later on, there will be a sufficient balance to withdraw from!

My Bird Brained Idea

Awhile back I bought a green birdcage. I've spent too much time this morning looking for a before picture, to no avail. I knew that I wanted to paint it, but other than that I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. This is what I came up with.

What I'm learning

I just started reading a new book tonight called "Scale Down" by Danna Demetre. It has the following quote in the first chapter:

"We are in danger of forgetting that we can not do what God does, and that God will not do what we can do". - Oswald Chambers

There are things I have absolutely no control over. God is in complete control in those areas. There are areas however that I do have some responsibility and I can't expect God to just take care of them without doing my part.

There are many areas of my life that I'm sure this could apply to. The first that I thought of was dieting. The second is parenting.

Just some interesting stuff for my brain to chew on tonight.

Quote for the day...

Found in the May 2008 Guideposts magazine:

"Be mindful of the link between action and outcome. Ask yourself: 'If I repeat today's action 365 times, will I be where I want to be in a year?'"- rower Roz Savage, who is training to be the first solo woman to row across the Pacific Ocean from California to Australia.

That quote has been very convicting to me since I read it yesterday. Apply it to every area of your life and you'll see what I mean.

I made very poor decisions on what I chose to eat this past weekend. That is reflected in my weight to the right. It's getting down to crunch time for the wedding. Only a month and 2 days left! I need to keep the above quote in mind!

Neat quote

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said:

"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, ... to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child or a garden patch ... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is success."
