I found the idea for this craft at "A Magical Childhood". You can see it here. This is a great site for quick and easy things to do with your kids (or just for fun if you don't have any kids!). This is where I got the idea to go out and howl at the moon with the boys. They loved it!
OK, for your ornaments, start out with decorations to put in it. I just looked around the house to see what we could put in them that I wouldn't have to worry about once they melted. We used sprinkles, broken candy canes, dry macaroni, unpopped popcorn, navy beans, oatmeal, and buckeyes.
We made our ornaments in muffin tins. Each boy was responsible for 3 and I did the other 3.
I poured water over the contents.

Then we added a couple of drops of food coloring to each one. I used McCormick's neon colors. I probably used 4 drops each, next time I think I'd only use 1-2.
