Friday Finds

Today at Goodwill we found a great lot of random Legos. It cost me less than $3 and came in the cool red "Lego" case. I hadn't ever seen those before. There were tons of neat pieces in there including a horse and at least 15-20 Lego guys (space men, fireman, etc). The boys played for over an hour with them when we got home and probably would have played longer if we weren't getting ready to leave again. I found the lamp at Goodwill. It was a little over $1. I plan to paint it black. Little bench is going to get painted also. Found the enamelware type thing at a garage sale. Will probably hang it on the wall and put some sort of flowers in it. Also picked up some workbooks for school at a garage sale.

This was $1 and was marked "planter". It has a metal insert. I'm going to paint this also.

My last two finds came from the spring trash pick up. :) People were out in droves today driving around and picking things up. First up is this office chair. I can't seem to find anything wrong with it and it seems very solid. Ethan said to me "I hope dad doesn't kill you". Ha ha.

Second find is another enamelware type bowl/pot. Inside it has some zinc lids for canning jars, just like the ones I paid for several months ago. I should have waited. God knows the desires of our hearts and will often give them to us if we are just patient!

More Garage Sale Purchases

Wooden based lamp .75 cents. Mirrored tray $3.The second photo contains the rest of the things I bought at the sale where we got the "Marbulous". Total spent at that garage sale was $2.20. ($1 of that was the marble game, the other $1.20 was this stuff). I think I should rename my blog to "Groceries, Garage Sales, and Guys". What do you think?

One last thing

10 canning jars for 1.00 and all of the movies for $4 ($1 each). Check out the original price on the Lord of the Rings. I have never seen "Gone with the Wind". I believe I have seen the first Lord of the Rings (I know I read the book).

Friday's Garage Sales

On Friday, the boys and I went out to garage sales with Amanda. The only thing Ethan wanted to find was Battleship. Amanda found it for him and it cost a whopping .25! It is missing one boat, but I am figuring that we will either play without it or try emailing the company about getting a replacement. The picture I had planned for the frame doesn't quite fit like I had hoped. I will have to find another picture!

A fun checked tablecloth for our picnic table sports some ric rac. "I Spy" puzzle for the boys $1. A book for me. A vintage linen and a cool pair of glittons or miloves. He he.

A lady at work mentioned on Thursday that she would like one of those backpacks with wheels. Done for $2 on Friday. Teaching Tiles for $1. A like new Buzz shirt for .50. A t shirt that I had planned for a gift .25 (although I have now found a little hole...poo!). Americana dishtowels for .10 each (2 never used). The owner was just "so happy to get rid of them". Farm dishtowel for 50 cents. Very cool bathroom picture for $2. I plan to paint the frame black to make the picture pop. There were 2 other similar pictures and now I wish I had picked them up. Also, a Doug and Melissa block puzzle that makes sounds when you match the right two pictures. This will be a Christmas gift for Leeland. It was $3.

Lots of sales this weekend. This month is full of community sales around here!

Community Sale Finds

This past weekend, my mom and I shopped a local community sale. This is what I was able to find! 2 shirts above, 10 cents each.
Shirts above 50 cents each. Shorts $1? (maybe less)

Pair of jeans for me 50 cents. Shirt for me $2.

Eddie Bauer jeans for Tim 50 cents. 2 pr. jeans and 1 pair jean Capris for me 1.00 each.

The clothes above were all 25 cents each. Including 2 matching but different colored sweaters for the boys.

If you attend the annual pirate party you'll understand this hat I picked up for .25!

Turtle footstool that I plan to recover and refinish, $1. Tupperware cupcake holder for 50 cents as well as a Rubbermaid holder for .50. Food processor for $2 (one of the 5 year olds had to show me how it worked). Faux apples (but very convincing) 50 cents for all.

The only 4 books I brought home for me! The Back to Basics one is one I've wanted for awhile. All books from the library sale were for a donation.

The rest of these books are going to Amanda's house. I plan to repaint the metal lid on the little glass jar. You can't really see it in the picture, but the images on the jar are really cute.

My last buy of the day was this bread machine. They were asking $15 and I paid $10 for it. I will be trying it out today as soon as I get it washed up.

More finds. I found this comforter for our bed. I have been looking at Kohls and every thing has been about $150 or so. Even on sale they were $60. I found this one for $10. I've since found out the other side is nicer, but of course I didn't find that out until after I took the picture. Two pairs of pajamas and a pair of Children's place overalls (for Leeland) for $1.75 total.

Here are all of my finds from the church rummage sale. The only thing I didn't buy there was the shoes hanging on the rack. I'm not even sure what that rack is for, but for .25 it will be a shoe holder at our house!

I love the candle holder with the rooster weather vane on top. It was a quarter also. I paid $4.50 for all of the things in the picture above.

Close up of the napkins. I envision using one of them in a basket of bread for Easter or spring in general.

I bought the boys marshmallow shooters. There are actually 4 shooters (I don't like guns, remember?). I bought one for Lochlyn. I'm sure the big boys (Tim and Matthew) will steal them and have some fun! I also found these neat scrubbers that someone had made. The marshmallow shooters were $2.50 a piece.

Garage Sale/ Rummage Sale finds

So far not a whole lot of garage sale action going on around here, but there seem to be a few more every week. This sale had all of their kids clothes for .50, unfortunately her kids were both younger than mine. I did score some cute things for Leeland though. Turns out the lady having this garage sale used to babysit Lochlyn ( I didn't recognize her). Also bought a cute Doug and Melissa puzzle for 1.00. I will be putting that away for Leeland for Christmas. I love the big chunky knobs on the pieces.

When we pulled into the sale, I noticed pine cones on the ground by our van. I decided I would ask the owner if they would mind if we took a few (this was before I knew she was a friend of Matthews). Anyways, she said to take as many as we wanted and the boys and I will be making bird feeders out of them next week.

I found this little bunny dish at a church rummage sale and fell in love with it. I couldn't really capture it well with the camera, I think you just have to see it in person. I love it's quirkiness and how the rabbits stick up above the bowl.

It just got even better after I filled it with the remaining jelly beans from Easter.

Garage Sale Goodies

Today was the community garage sale around here. The boys and I went out for awhile this morning. I found the items in the first picture right in my backyard (at Tim's cousins house). I found some larger size jeans for the boys that were in great shape (Levis and Wranglers) and only 1.00 each, so I thought I'd pick them up. The green shirt, pressed flower frame (for Melodie),candles, and Creative Memories scrapbook were all .50 each.
I found this picture for my classroom. The chalkboard says "I will obey my teacher".
We also found Toy Story 2 which the boys have been waiting to find and I found a grapevine star that is already in the kitchen.

Garage Sale Goodies

Lately there have been a bunch of "teacher" sales. The one today was a teacher that was retiring after 35 years! Almost all of the books were 4 for $1. There were Mennonites there buying things for their one room schoolhouses (4 grades, 11 kids total). I have been to 3 teacher sales this year.

These little cut out things are laminated. She had tons of different games and things like this all 10 cents an envelope.

Cool vintage paint by number never used, 25 cents.

This is the best thing. A train that holds days of the week, months, or "first" "second" , etc. It was brand new and it was a quarter!!!
All kinds of fun vintage teaching books for 25 cents each.
A neat box of flash cards with maps on them. I think this was $2 but way cool.

Super Saturday Sales

These are from last Saturday. I went to one place that had all their kids clothes for 25 cents. I was looking , but the boys were getting restless so the guy gave them each a toy and let them play on their swing set and with their dog. They loved it. I got all of these clothes, a huge pottery type bowl, and an abacus for $5. (Sonya -there's even some "Place" in there). I got this pillow at another sale. I love it. It just looks vintage and has a great reminder on it!

Fantastic Friday Finds

Today after VBS we went garage sale-ing for a little bit. One of my friends from work was having one at her daughters house, so we headed that way. We stopped at the wrong one first, but that lady had rabbits and let the boys feed them and she ended up selling us a Buzz Lightyear for .50. I had picked it up and the batteries were still good. She wanted a dollar, but I didn't really want to spend that much, so I put it back. She said she'd sell it to me for .50 because she knew how bad Ethan wanted it. Actually, Ethan had put it back on his own before I did. Oh well. They have had fun with it.

My best deal of the day was this Little Tikes train seesaw. It was marked $10, but I only had $5 I wanted to spend, so she gave it to me for $5! There have been a lot of fights over this already! It will end up in the play yard.I got this country lamp for $2. It was my take a chance buy. It has some stains on the shade, but the rest is great. I cleaned up the little balls and wiped the shade off. I will probably try to get some kind of new shade for it. I think it was still worth $2. The light bulb was still good..50 for each of these items. The book just looked cute. I haven't read it all yet, but basically, the rabbit helps the other animals find "rooms" which are really their habitats. The purse is almost exactly like the one I have, just a different color. My zipper has been breaking and the handles are starting to crack. I asked the lady "this is a dollar right?" and she said "no, 50 cents". I just liked the Peanuts tin (and it even has Franklin on it!).My second best buy of the day was this. It has frames for 4 pictures, a wipe board, and a bulletin board. It was new in the package for .50. I am going to put black and white photos of the boys in it.

Fun Finds

Here are some more garage sale-ing pictures.

I have wanted this picture forever (OK, a really long time). It is an ABC print and each letter has a Bible verse with it. It is from Home and Garden Party, and I think it runs about $25 or so (if not more). I got it today for $4. The glass is cracked in one spot, but I'm hoping to replace it cheaply. I also found this felt "story" of The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly". Her mouth opens and the kids can stick the animals in as I read the story. This was 75 cents.
I found these glove/ mittens for Isaiah. They were 25 cents.
I also found this cute lacing toy. It is a girl bear, but it was so cute and only 50 cents, so I got it. You take the lid off of the box and then lace her clothes on with shoe laces.
