Fun for Christmas Day ?- Ice Ornaments

I found the idea for this craft at "A Magical Childhood". You can see it here. This is a great site for quick and easy things to do with your kids (or just for fun if you don't have any kids!). This is where I got the idea to go out and howl at the moon with the boys. They loved it!
OK, for your ornaments, start out with decorations to put in it. I just looked around the house to see what we could put in them that I wouldn't have to worry about once they melted. We used sprinkles, broken candy canes, dry macaroni, unpopped popcorn, navy beans, oatmeal, and buckeyes. We made our ornaments in muffin tins. Each boy was responsible for 3 and I did the other 3.
I poured water over the contents.

Then we added a couple of drops of food coloring to each one. I used McCormick's neon colors. I probably used 4 drops each, next time I think I'd only use 1-2.

I put some twine looped into each one and then we put them in the freezer. Once they were frozen, I took them outside

and hung them on the trees.

It was a nice decoration for several days until the weather warmed up enough to melt them. They looked particularly nice when the sun was shinning.
